Vicky Oldfield is a Surrey-based artist known for her richly textured, expressive works inspired by the natural world. Her practice centres on the exploration of surface, form, and the quiet beauty found in organic, time-worn elements, often drawing on the delicate structures of wild flowers and found forms.
Working primarily in mixed media and collagraph, Vicky creates pieces that feel both contemporary and timeless. Layers of paper, fabric, and other materials are built up and worked into the surface of printmaking plates, resulting in distinctive, tactile compositions with an aged, almost weathered quality. Each piece carries a sense of process and evolution, revealing subtle shifts in tone, texture, and depth.
Vicky is an elected member of the Royal Society of British Artists and has exhibited widely, including regular participation in the Summer Exhibition at the Royal Academy of Arts. Her work has been recognised for its unique balance of structure and spontaneity, sitting comfortably between fine art and sculptural surface.
Alongside her studio practice, Vicky is also a published author. Her book, Mixed Media Collagraphs, published by The Crowood Press, reflects her deep knowledge of process and her passion for sharing the possibilities of this versatile and expressive medium.
Through her work, Vicky continues to explore the relationship between control and chance, creating pieces that invite closer looking and bring a quiet, textural presence to interior spaces.
Vicky studied for a BA (Hons) in Design at Staffordshire University before going on to specialise in advanced printmaking at Richmond School of Art, where she was tutored by master printmaker Melvyn Petterson.
Alongside her fine art practice, she has built an extensive career as a freelance designer and illustrator, working with a wide range of respected clients including Art Angels, Canns Down Press, Villeroy & Boch, Dorma, Crown, Venelia, The British Museum, Ling Design, Phoenix Trading, Wedgwood, Art Crazy and Papercraft magazines.
Earlier in her career, Vicky held in-house roles as a studio designer for Triodes International in Paris and Crown Wallcoverings in London, experiences which continue to inform her strong sense of composition, pattern, and surface in her artwork today.
